CROSSWORD PUZZLE FOR MERCHANT OF VENICE

SUMMARY IN SHORT — The story of ‘ Merchant of Venice’ revolves around Antonio, the protagonist of the drama. He is a thorough gentleman and a renowned Merchant of city of Venice. Bassanio is his best friend who wishes to marry Portia, a rich heiress of Belmont. In order to win her hand for marriage , he requires a lot of money to visit the lady and to try his luck in the famous ‘Game of Caskets’.

Antonio wishes to help his friend to court Portia, the beautiful lady but unfortunately he does not have the large amount asked by Bassanio. Under the circumstance , he feels compelled to take a loan from a shrewd businessman Shylock on the security of his three ships that are on their way back to Venice. Now the wicked Shylock who charges heavy interest on loans he provides to others finds great opportunity to take revenge from Antonio who had once insulted him on an occasion. He does not demand interest on his loan but states that if Antonio fails to repay the loan within the limited time period the former would cut a pound of flesh from the body of Antonio as a punishment. Antonio signs the deed and returns back with the loan hoping confidently that he would repay him back soon.

Bassanio reaches Belmont and chooses the right casket (the lead casket) in the Game of Caskets and marries Portia. His helper Lorenzo marries Portia’s maid , Nerissa. They take vows, exchange rings and promise never to part from the ring.
